November 1st, Old Mexico,
the graveyards dance and sing,
the grey tombs lit by torches glow
as mourners picnicking
cheer up the dead with joyful song:
'Wake up, the night is long!'
How different from the English way
with sovereign Death addressed
once only on a single day,
our loved ones left to rest,
'Sweet dead sleep tight and deep and long,
No light, no dance, no song!'
